Trending Rugs: Winter/Spring 2025

Every season, the furniture and decor industry have new launches, much like fashion. It is so exciting to see what’s being introduced and which trends are sticking around for another year.

I’ve gone through all of the best rug vendors and picked out what I’m most excited about.

Low Contrast Traditional

Traditional patterned rugs will always have a place in the design world, what changes with the trends are the hues and the intensity of contrast between hues.

With the furniture trends continuing to evolve into this “Neo traditional, eclectic grandma aesthetic”, Persian inspired rugs with a low contrast, neutral color scheme are a natural companion.

This trend fits seamlessly into a space aiming for coastal elegance. Pair with classic blue upholstery, dark rattan furniture and botanical artwork and/or accessories - you’re left with a timeless space.

Textured Grid Patterns

Add extra interest to the space by layering a patterned rug over a flat woven rug that is one size larger than the patterned.

Much like the traditional style stepping back into the spotlight, colorful patterned rugs are on the rise. Geometric grids are made more interesting by high and low contrasting colors, high and low piles, and high and low cost materials. Whether shopping for a jute rug, a New Zealand wool or an indoor/outdoor - there will definitely be new options with a grid pattern.

These patterns pair well with furniture that maybe doesn’t have a lot of visual interest. When done this way, the focus shifts to the rug and allows it to be the statement piece. A minimal coffee table is a good idea for the same reason, you don’t want to take away or possibly compete with the attention these rugs typically demand.

Earth Tones

We are continuing to see greens and warm neutral tones everywhere. For a long time it was hard to find a rug that was not grey but finally the industry is catching up. With winter still in full swing, these earthy colors paired with a thick, wool based pile just feel perfectly cozy!
